‘Funky Karsilama Fun"
So very happy to share my

I have been obsessed with this song since introduced to it by Scott Wilson for the Turkey/Syria Earthquake Relief Fundraiser.

‘Creating Dynamic Choreographies’
Why does choreography lead to better performances, even when it is totally improvisational?
When we choreography our own dances,
we find more of ourselves in the music by discovering different ways of expressing
the same musical phrase.
Our possibilities grow and
our expression has more depth.

‘Vintage Karsilama!’
In just about every show in the MENAHT nightclub days I performed in the late 70’s- 8o’s most show finales would be a fast karsilama.
For movement emphasis their was light work with cabaret skirts (not big skirts) but it was the hip and footwork that drew the audience in for an exciting last impression.
Karsilama is still being performed in clubs with live music. A whole new generation of musicians and dancers have taken the fascinating rhythm and run with it.
The repertoire of movements has expanded to include Rom gestures as well as more theatrical moves.

Music Mapping Parts I & II
One of the most musical dancers of our time, the incomparable Aszmara shares her unique method of music mapping and understanding of music in an intimate setting.
Music Mapping & Tea Part I
Many times I have been asked to help dancers with understanding of music. An important way to connect with music and learn/create choreography faster is to Map your music choice. We find the heart of the piece as well as nuances in the instrumentation leading us to understand not only the piece we choose, but music in general.
Taught in the intimacy of my home studio, with a minimum three people, maximum six, this 3 hour class we will learn to Map and dissect music (bring a piece to Map) and enjoy Tea and Cookies as we discuss this important growth as a musical dancer.
Music Mapping & Part II
For dancers who have taken Music Mapping Part I, this 3 hour workshop develops our mapped music into choreography outlines. Each dancer presents their map and rough dance while we all have fun improvising along. Aszmara will offer suggestions for your dance based on what you mapped and give guidance on this important growth as a musical dancer.
