Expand your range of expression with Dynamic Staging. Whether in a nightclub or on a raised stage, quite often in performance the tendency is to use the same space as we are used to in rehearsing. 'Of Hope' Premiered in New York City on January 30th 1994. It was performed frequently with the full company of Saz Dance Theatre and in its chamber form as a duet with Roberta and Azsmara for six years. It seems important to us now to present this work again. After a span of nine years the relevancy and urgency has not diminished.

Zill Master Class as part of Ranya's Special Guest Workshops
Aszmara will teach the fascinating
6/8 and 7/8 rhythms in their basic zill patterns and then some! Feeling the rhythm, moving
with the rhythm and improvising on the rhythm--to make these unusual rhythms feel more
usual. Aszmara is a truly inspiring dancer and has loads of experience playing unusual
rhythms from her extensive work with Souren Baronian's ensemble. This will be a great
opportunity to try out these unusual rhythms on the cymbals, and yes, dance to them!

Master Class - Dance Story
Fazil's Dance Studio will be Open Through February!
Since the beginning of my Dance Life, Fazil's has been at the center of my creative process - with classes taken and taught; with company and solos works developed and realized.
TWe had such fun at the Last Master Class with Dance Story that I decided to continue paying homage to the creative process with "Dance Story" - one aspect of SaZ Dance Theatre that Roberta Koch and I did so well together.
"Dance Story" has specific themes and movements as well as room for improvisation. We will work the same theme for both classes so you have a chance to grow and become the story.

Workshop with Aszmara and Rayhana
Jazz It Up! Dance to the Middle Eastern Jazz of Souren Baronian
and Taksim Ensemble
Last years workshop entitled "Out of the Box and show were both sold
out.
The show was packed and great. Expand your dance horizons with the sultry and exultant
melodies and funky traditional rhythms of Middle Eastern jazz. As this is the space we
will be performing in, there are benefits to having the workshop at Lafayette. Due to
other commitments Ranya will not join us this year but the fabulous Amar and some of her
company members will also be performing at our show.
Interested workshop participants can perform solo or in groups in our
Tuesday, November 13th show at Lafayette Grill with the live Taksim Ensemble! Show
date November 13, Showtime 7:30 to 10:00. $10.00 Admission and $20.00
minimum at door. No charge for dancers. There will be extra coaching sessions to
work on group pieces for those interested; early registrants will get priority
for solo slots.
Aszmara, just back from her tour in Switzerland with
Taksim is a master teacher and fiery performer known for her fascinating use of rhythm and
expression, will be teaching improvisational skills for use with the many
"unusual" rhythms that, influenced by his Armenian background, Sourens
music contains - including 6/8 7/8, 8/8, 9/8, 10/8 and 11/8.
In this workshop, Aszmara will focus on helping dancers tune their ears to better
understand these rhythms while feeling the rhythm in the improvised solos. We will work on
their expression of these improvised solos through movment exploration and short
combinations
Rayhana's dramatic and sensual
style is a perfect match for the smoldering jazzy taksims in this music. Being true to the
feminine and spiritual essence of Middle Eastern Dance has always been important to
Rayhana, and she brings out these qualities in her mesmerizing floorwork and veilwork. She
has worked extensively with Souren's music and has toured with Souren's ensemble
internationally, including residencies in Spain and Hawaii. In this workshop will be
working with the participants on usage of the veil to this music in standing and floor
positions.

Beautiful FloorWork Workshop
Sensuous and Languid, Floor Work is one of the most demanding skills to acquire for this dance. It challenges you physically and when performed puts you in touch with your sensuous nature. Youth and a good back can take you only so far!
All levels of students will learn to increase their abilities and expression in the Beautiful Floor Work Workshop. This 3 hour workshop we will cover Great Stretches, Graceful Descents and Rising and What to Do once you are down there (and, please, what not to do!)
Knee pads are recommended for this workshop.
Check pictures of this beautiful studio as to why I chose this location for the Floor Work Workshop. Located down the street from the Yonkers Train Station (30 minutes from Grand Central). http://www.theloftdance-fitness.com/main.html
It is beautiful, big and pristine clean for all of that crawling around!

Master Class - Dance Story
$25.00 per Class
Possibly, almost definitely, the Last Master Class held at my beloved Fazil's Dance Studio.
Since the beginning of my Dance Life, Fazil's has been at the center of my creative process - with classes taken and taught; with company and solos works developed and realized.
This Last Master Class at Fazil's pays homage to the creative process with "Dance Story" - one aspect of SaZ Dance Theatre that Roberta Koch and I did so well together.
"Dance Story" has specific themes and movements as well as room for improvisation. We will work the same theme for both classes so you have a chance to grow and become the story.
